On Adventures

Part of it is that I love D&D podcasts. Part of it is that I love RPGs. Part of it is that I love supporting friends’ dreams. Part of it is looking for new things to do while social distancing. But, when one of my dear friends asked if anyone was interested in being a part of a live D&D game, I did not hesitate to put my name in the hat.

So, here we are, many weeks later, about to embark on a new adventure! Your Average Adventuring Show! The plan is to record every other Sunday and release videos each following Wednesday, putting out first video out, hopefully, a week from tomorrow (if the technology gods are with us!).

Early on, when we were brainstorming character ideas, I mulled over several character concepts. And, ultimately I chose to do something that I had had in the back of my mind for many years now; re-inventing my OG character.

Instead of converting a level 27 2nd Edition character into 5th Edition straight up (which would be insane and unfair – and would never get DM approval anyway, rightfully so), I decided to rebirth her.

Her name was Feldonna (a name that was relentlessly made fun of back in the day). She was a Kagonesti fighter. She set out as young adventurer after her tribe was wiped out by orcs. While she started off with a short short, eventually she would have an arsenal of weapons (including a badass sentient sword) of which her favourite was a double-headed battle axe. She fell in with a disparate group of folks who walked the line of morality, and was primarily taken in by a Minotaur, named Zhrakkan, who became her trainer, her mentor, and her best friend.

But, as we are not in Krynn and as the group I play with has a rule against fantasy racism, it was time to start with a clean slate with some main bullet points. So, Fenlen Swifthoof was born. Still a forest-dwelling elf, her family was wiped out by a wildfire when she was a young child. Burned, lost, and starving, she was ultimately found and rescued by an enclave of Minotaurs and raised by a retired fighter. She has, at the age of 18, set off on her Aza, or Quest Year, with her shiny new double-headed battle axe, a gift from the Minotaur who has raised her.

I am very curious to see where her Aza takes her. Who will she meet? What challenges will she face? What will she learn about herself and the world?

THIS is why I D&D!
