The Big Slowdown

Having Tabletop Teas as my sole job means I have a lot of time to ponder recipes I would like to add, tea-related products I would like to add, ways I would like to improve my website, Austin-based services I would like to provide, etc, etc.

A couple years ago I started periodically getting tingliness iny fingers after I would be typing for awhile. But, it would dissipate fairly quickly. I have both fibromyalgia and Reynaud’s Phenomenon so I chalked it up to related to one or both of those. But, a few weeks ago it started getting alarmingly worse.

Then suddenly one day there was a great deal of pain in my thumb and wrist. That pain made it’s way up my arm over the next couple of days and one day my whole right arm was in so much pain I could not move without nearly coming to tears.

It is VERY likely that I have developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or some related RSI. The treatment is basically, at this point, lots of resting, splinting, icing, and NSAIDS. I aggressively rested for a week, but have been wanting to get back to working more and working toward all those plans in my head. However, I am quickly learning that this is not going away overnight.

While my symptoms are much improved, they are not gone (and may never fully go away). I am able to do a bit more, but I do have to be careful not to overdo it. So, this all means that those plans are far more spaced out than I originally hoped. My work days are shorter and what I accomplish is less. Just reminding myself that that is okay. Better to take it slow and be able to eventually do all these things in my head than push myself too hard and have to step away from the thing that brings me a great deal of joy.

Cheers,

Tanya
